Andrew Robinson earned his Bachelor of Arts in English and Religion from Rhodes College, his Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University, and his Master of Arts in Educational Theatre from New York University. He is the current Chair of Musical Theatre at The Academy.
His academic publications include Advocating for Abolition, co-authored with Joan Brodsky-Schur and published with Social Studies School Service, an extended classroom simulation of an abolitionist convention. He was a founding member of the company Shakespeare-to-Go in New York City, which brought free Shakespeare to public school children. Regionally, he has been a creative associate with the Wagon Wheel Theatre for ten years where he has performed in dozens of shows and has directed such shows including Blithe Spirit, 9 to 5, and The Importance of Being Earnest. His Chicago credits include the House Theatre (The Nutcracker), Porchlight Music Theatre (Assassins), Red Tape (The Merchant of Venice), and Assassins in Concert at the Chicago Humanties Festival. Among the shows that Andy has helmed at The Academy are Company, Into the Woods, Merrily We Roll Along, City of Angels, Urinetown, Anything Goes, Grease, The Pirates of Penzance, and The Taming of the Shrew. In addition to directing and acting, Robinson moonlights as a designer, prop-builder, and scenic artist.
